Every year, Britain’s Royal Observatory in Greenwich (yes, of Mean Time fame) holds a competition recognising the very best

photos people take of space. This year’s winners include a giant horse and an accidental video game tribute.
The best “deep space” photo, below, was taken by Bill Snyder. If you’ve ever heard the term “horsehead

it had such a stupid name, now you know. My favourite, though, is this shot, the winner of the “people and space” category.cnx.cmd.push(function(){cnx({"playerId":"e3616d04-4972-4839-a63a-c6975e2e9731","settings":{"advertising":{"macros":{"AD_UNIT":"/23178111854/od.kotaku.com/article","CHILD_UNIT":"article","POST_ID":"1637474687","POST_TYPE":"post","CHANNEL":"uncategorized","SECTION":"","SUBSECTION":"","CATEGORIES":"uncategorized","TAGS":"","NOP":"0"},"timeBeforeFirstAd":0}}}).render("cnx-player-main")});
